EMDR Therapy in NYC and Across NY, PA & FL

When something from the past still feels too present, EMDR can help you move forward.
Maybe you’ve worked hard to push through. Maybe you’ve already been to therapy and understood the “why” behind your patterns – but things still feel stuck. That’s often the moment people start to consider EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). It’s a gentle yet powerful therapy approach designed to help your mind and body resolve what talking alone hasn’t been able to fully heal.

At Resouling Therapy, Mike offers EMDR to adults across New York, Pennsylvania, and Florida via secure video sessions. Whether you’re dealing with specific trauma, relationship wounds, ongoing anxiety, or just a persistent feeling of being off-center, EMDR can be a helpful path toward clarity, integration, and relief.

What Is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR is a structured therapy approach that helps your brain reprocess distressing memories, emotions, or beliefs that are keeping you stuck. While traditional talk therapy focuses on insight and reflection, EMDR also engages the brain’s innate ability to heal by using bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements, tapping, or audio tones) while focusing on specific experiences.

The result? Experiences that once felt emotionally charged, confusing, or overwhelming begin to lose their intensity. The story doesn’t disappear – but the way it affects you changes. You may feel less reactive, more grounded, and more able to respond instead of getting hijacked by the past.

How EMDR Helps

EMDR is widely known for its effectiveness in treating PTSD, but its applications go far beyond that. It’s often helpful for:

  • Emotional triggers that feel out of proportion
  • Relational wounds or breakups that linger
  • Negative self-beliefs (“I’m not good enough,” “It was my fault”)
  • Panic attacks or performance anxiety
  • Persistent shame or guilt
  • Overwhelming emotions around future events
  • Feeling “stuck” even when life looks fine on the outside

We also use EMDR with clients who have high-functioning anxiety, difficulty trusting others, or a hard time feeling safe in their own emotions. If you’ve ever thought, “I should be over this by now,” or “Something still doesn’t feel right,” EMDR can help uncover what’s beneath the surface – and give it space to resolve.

What a Typical EMDR Session Looks Like

We begin with a conversation about your history and what you want to shift. You don’t need to come in with a tidy narrative or a fully formed memory – part of our job is to help identify the root material.

Once you’ve experienced grounding exercises, Mike will guide you through short sets of bilateral stimulation while you focus on a particular memory, belief, or emotion. You remain fully awake and in control the entire time. There’s no hypnosis – just a steady, contained process that helps your brain do what it’s already wired to do: heal.

Is EMDR Right for Me?

EMDR might be a good fit if:

  • You’ve been through something hard that still affects you
  • You’re emotionally overwhelmed, numb, or shut down and not sure why
  • You’re tired of repeating the same patterns in relationships
  • You’ve made progress in therapy but still feel stuck
  • You’re open to an approach that’s different from traditional talk therapy

Many of our clients are thoughtful, capable people who are functioning well on the outside – but feel off on the inside. EMDR gives them a way to access and resolve what hasn’t been fully processed, often without needing to talk it to death.
